Manager- Expedition Team, Engagement & Development

As the Manager of Expedition Team Engagement & Development you will primarily oversee and drive the recruitment, hiring and scheduling of the Expedition Team. The Expedition Team is a diverse and multi-faceted group of
contractors who work in the field on our vessels as guides, presenters, educators, guest service representatives, linguists, gift shop managers, expedition leaders, logistics managers, photography guides and more.

As a key member of the Engagement & Development team, you will also contribute to our training and development programs, curriculum, certifications and instruction.
Expedition Team Engagement & Development is a sub-department of the Quark Operations department, established to support and foster the growth of our skilled and loyal expedition team. Staffing needs and responsibilities are intricately linked
to our general expedition operations. Your experience and expertise will be called on to provide insight and consultation into a number of ongoing projects and initiatives including but not limited to staff uniform, staff retention & loyalty, staff
assessment, performance & development plans.
Working closely with the Director of Expedition Team Engagement & Recruitment, you will develop and oversee sustainable staffing strategies that align with Quark’s growth plans and act as a staff management stakeholder in reviewing
new products and programs for future seasons. This includes but is not limited to reviewing adventure options, language services, sales requests and participating in the season launch endorsement process.

To be successful in this role, you will come to us with the following experience and qualifications.

  • 2 -5 years field experience as an expedition team member in the polar regions
  • Understanding of and empathy for the challenges and nuances of working in the field as an expedition team member
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience ( Recruitment, Outdoor Leadership, Education)
  • Experience and fluency in use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience with an LMS and Curriculum Development is preferred.
  • Qualifications in project management also advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Strong organization and time management skills

This is a  contract position covering maternity leave expected to start Feb / March 2021. To be considered for this role, it is preferable that you are located in Toronto or in a similar East Coast or central North American time zone.
